“Designing for the future: trends we need to consider now” – Annual Blogging Contest

This blog post is a part of Design Blogger Competition organized by CGTrader

Fashion is an art and we- people of the society, are its canvas. Like any art form, fashion has its connoisseur but the beauty of fashion lies in its appeal to the masses. Fashion knows no borders, and defines every generation in a unique sense.

Fashion has its own soul and it evolves with the changing need of the society. As a race, humankind is sitting on the pinnacle of globalization, technological breakthroughs, consumerism, wanting for more.  Fashion, in particular has always been linked with hedonism, the school of thought that allows for creating unprecedented need to derive pleasure in life , but sadly, this pleasure may come at a certain cost. We have now started to recognize that  the resources our nature provides us, do not replenish themselves at the same pace as we are depleting them. Every now and then we read about the ugly business of fashion which involves polluting the rivers, salvery, and many other ethical issues.

The impact of fashion industry on our environment and society is huge and it is absolutely necessary that the trends for the future design should be dictated by ethical and eco-hedonism. The concept of  “sustainability” is seemingly well placed in many industries. However, Fashion industry really needs to catch up. The good news is that approaching fashion from a sustainable point of view is no longer an alien concept. There are many small brands that have taken the path of ethical and conscious designs. The bad news is “fast fashion” still rules the majority of masses.

I personally believe, the trend  we need to consider in terms of designing the future, are  minimalism and sustainability . I also believe that minimalism is a life philosophy and not an easy trend to catch on, and that is why we need even more fashion brands to produce clothings and accessories that have lower impact on the environment.

Currently, sustainable fashion is only for the few intellectual elites. They are good people who care for the world but they can also afford such fashion. The future trend should be making sustainable fashion accessible to the masses. This can only be done if prices are affordable and this will only happen when more and more fashion brands adopt the eco-hedonistic school of thought.  It is all about recognizing the need and filling the gap.

As a fashion enthusiast and consumer, I promise shopping feels so much worthwhile if I know my money is not turning into blood money and that through my humble purchase I am contributing to making the environment better. Fashion businesses must make use of this feel-good emotion of the consumer by allowing them with more ethical fashion choices which are also affordable to buy.

Style Files: Blue dress and grey woolen shrug

Remember I had started spring cleaning one day when I found that coat, guess what I had also found a sweater-shrug , well I don’t know if there is such a thing, but it is a woolen sweater so small that it qualifies to be called a shrug :-). This cute little grey shrug is another great find from thrift market in Noida, India. The dress is from Orsay, it was on special price of 15 Euro. The heels are the same that I wear in almost every outfit post. They are from H&M, so old that I forgot how much they were for but I am assuming not more than 20 Euro. Continue reading

Hey all ,

Hope you are having great holidays wherever you are in the world and are as stoked as I am for ringing in 2017 soon 🙂

We celebrated our Christmas in a beautiful French city COLMAR , which truly was magical. There were five Christmas markets in all and although it was far from white Christmas, the city was dripping in Christmas spirit. Me and my husband share a special liking to the city and becuase it is only an hour away from where we live in Germany and Colmar has Sephora so I never hesitate to visit this gorgeous corner of France. My love for all things Plaid

Plaid is one iconic pattern that goes back to thousands of years in history and I am sure you would agree that it will continue to be a fashion staple for years to come.

I love patterns in general, but with plaid I share something special, you don’t believe it? check out the pics at the end. Well, when I think of it, I believe my love for plaid may have something to do with my love for “Scotland”. It’s my dream to go to the “Tartan” land for more reasons than one. We all have watched “Braveheart” movie right ? or “Outlander” series ? mmmm… if not, you know what you could watch during this weekend, I promise you won’t be disappointed 🙂 Continue reading

Piled higher and Deeper (PhD): Comic strip that depicts my Life

In my last post I did a short rant about how infrequent my blog posts are BECAUSE I am trying to finish my PhD. I got a lot of support from all you wonderful friends, which I appreciate from the bottom of my heart. I got so encouraged reading such kind , warm and supportive comments that I  got my act together and decided to do at least one more post before the month of scanty posts (read October) is done with. Instrospection, Autumn and Midi-fever

Please feel free to scroll down to the very end to avoid the rant if you like, outfit pictures are at the end 🙂

so here the short rant begins …

I would be very happy if nobody has noticed it yet that I have failed to upload posts on regular basis, but I for sure know that I indeed have failed in that front. I know it is almost like committing blog-suicide. No matter how much I wanted  it to happen, I have not been able to post a certain blogpost on a certain day and time. As I thought more about it, my rational mind told me three things straight off: Continue reading

Goodbye Summer: Blue on blue casual outfit

Summer has never been my favourite season, even when it meant icecreams and picnics by the riverside & waterfalls. However after being in Zurich, I  have started to enjoy sunny stint after days of grey weather here. The year 2016 was really blessed with good summer days though on the contrary to the local legends. You know, in Zürich, there is a traditional spring festival called :  Sechseläuten , which has been celebrated since the early 20th century.  There is street parade followed by burning of Böögg, its a snowman effigy filled with explosives (just like  we burn the effigies during Dussehra in India). Legend has it that the time taken between lighting of the pyre and the explosion of the Böögg`s head tells how warm and sunny the summer will be in the coming months. Lesser time means good summer. In 2016, it took record time of 43 minutes but we still got good summer days 🙂 Continue reading

Black dress and cashmere stole-Keep it simple silly !

Christian Dior LBD.jpg

Little black dress is known for being a classic piece in every women’s wardrobe. This piece of clothing has evolved so much with time and yet somethings have never changed about it:  its effortless elegance,  sober charm, and timeless flaunt.

On saturday, it was my husband’s birthday and I thought it is a perfect evening to take out my very own black dress to go out for dinner. Continue reading
